Failure Mode Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA) - short version

(1) A procedure performed after a failure mode effects analysis to classify each potential failure effect according to its severity and probability of occurrence.

(2) FMECA is an extensive but simple method for identifying ways in which an engineered system could fail. The primary goal of FMECA is to develop priorities for corrective action based on estimated risk.
